VM Settings

This page provides detailed controls and settings for managing a Virtual Machine (VM).

The VM Settings tab offers full control over your VM environment, including storage, networking, OS, firewall, and more.

VM Settings Tab Overview

The left-hand sidebar contains key configuration options:

  • Block Storage (Volumes): Manage attached volumes and create snapshots
  • Change Plan: Upgrade or customize your VM specs (downgrades not supported)
  • Change Hostname: Rename the VM; this triggers a reboot
  • Change OS: Reinstall the operating system (this erases all data)
  • Reset Password: Regain access by resetting the root/admin password
  • Change Startup Script: Automate tasks that run on boot
  • Firewall: Configure inbound/outbound rules
  • Networks: Manage public/private network settings
  • Port Forwarding: Forward traffic to internal services
  • SSH Keys: Add/manage keys for password-less access

Block Storage (Volumes)

Manage attached volumes, view current storage, and create or delete snapshots.

tip

This section helps monitor disk allocation and manage backups.

Change Plan

Upgrade your VM by selecting a predefined plan or customizing one.

warning

Downgrading a plan or reducing disk size is not supported and may risk data loss.

Choose from:

  • Standard configurations
  • Custom plans with CPU/RAM/storage tailored to your needs

Change Hostname

Modify the hostname your VM uses on the OS and network level.

info

Changing the hostname will reboot your instance.

Change OS

Reinstall or change the operating system.

danger

Changing the OS will erase all current data.
Ensure you’ve taken snapshots or backups before continuing.

Reset Password

Use this to reset your root/admin password if you've lost access.

  • The instance will reboot
  • New credentials will be set after the reboot completes
tip

Useful in case of login failure or expired credentials

Change Startup Script

Set or edit a script that executes every time the VM starts.

  • Automate provisioning
  • Set custom environment variables
  • Install software on boot

Firewall

Control which ports and protocols are allowed to reach your VM:

  • Allow only trusted traffic
  • Protect against unauthorized access
  • Define rules by IP, protocol, and port

Networks

Configure public and private networks:

  • Assign or release public IPs
  • Switch between isolated or VPC-style networking
  • Adjust DNS or gateway configs

Port Forwarding

Expose internal services by forwarding ports:

  • Host web servers, APIs, databases
  • Public Port → VM Internal Port
  • Custom NAT rules

SSH Keys

Manage SSH keys that allow secure access to your VM:

  • Add new keys
  • Revoke old or unused ones
  • Secure remote login without using a password

Conclusion

The VM Settings tab is your hub for full virtual machine control.
From storage to network, from security to automation — you can fine-tune every detail of your VM to fit your project’s needs.
