What is a Public IP Address?

A Public IP Address is a globally unique identifier assigned to your virtual instance, enabling direct communication over the internet. It allows external users or systems to reach your server from anywhere in the world—making it essential for hosting public-facing websites, APIs, applications, or other online services.

Unlike Private IPs, which are used within isolated internal networks, Public IPs are routed through the internet and can be accessed externally (subject to firewall and security policies).

Managing Public IP Addresses

If your instance has been assigned a Public IP, you can manage and configure its behavior through the Webberstop Cloud Portal:

  1. Log in to the Cloud Portal.

  2. From the left-side navigation panel, go to Networks > Public IP Address.

  3. Select the specific Public IP you wish to manage.

From this interface, you can:

  • View assignment details
  • Update DNS entries (if supported)
  • Release or reassign IPs to other instances
  • Modify firewall or NAT rules (depending on your network setup)

Refer to the following guides for step-by-step instructions and advanced configuration:

tip

Public IPs are limited resources. Use them judiciously and secure them with proper firewall policies and access controls.
